At the national level, Crédit Mutuel has a Foundation with a division dedicated to reading. For over 20 years, this foundation has worked to support projects that raise public awareness about reading and help fight illiteracy.

Each federation is represented by a regional delegate who acts as contact for those involved in projects in their region. For CMNE, these are Philippe Ronsse and Marie Collette.

Since its creation, the Foundation has launched and supported over 1,500 initiatives to promote reading among diverse audiences.

Examples of projects :

Preventing and overcoming illiteracy :

Because reading is a fundamental tool for social and cultural integration, the Reading division is involved in actions to address the urgent matter of illiteracy, such as :

  • An awareness raising program about reading for young children and families (travelling projects, reading workshops in isolated areas, …)
  • Reading projects to combat illiteracy in children and adults (remedial workshops to recover basic skills, supporting structures that help with integration, etc.)

Lire la Ville :

All over France, the Fondation Crédit Mutuel pour la Lecture has been stimulating school-aged children and young people to read thanks to the program "Lire la Ville" (Read the City). In the region Nord-Pas de Calais, dozens of classes receive our support each year. Children who attend schools classified as part of the réseau d’éducation prioritaire renforcé (high-priority education network) can thus "get outside of the walls" and be involved in an original project, which may combine reading, writing, theater, …

Reading innovation prize :

Priority is given to actions that can have a lasting impact and that are supported locally by the regional federations of Crédit Mutuel. Each year, associations or individuals partnering with associations can submit applications and present innovative projects designed to promote learning to read. The two laureates who have tackled the challenge of "innovating to read" get to share a grant of 30,000 €.
